Located near the city stadium, it has a giant statue of Buddha built in honour of the 84th birth anniversary of the King of Thailand.
Still undergoing construction, it is supposed to accommodate over 100,000 smaller Buddha statues when it's finished. Construction site atmosphere means parts of the approach it the statue are muddy.
Due to the transliteration from Dzongkha to English, this place shows up under a variety of names: Tashichho, Trashi Chho, Tashi Cho... (You'll probably be visiting with a guide anyway.)
Works on a set menu system, but the quantities are somewhat of an overkill for a single person - works out much better for groups. Charming, traditional design.
One of the cheapest places to drink in the heart of the city (compared to other pubs) because it's a Wetherspoons, and a grand hall decor to boot.
One of the hidden gems in Punakha. The bridge is fairly high but incredibly peaceful. Must worth a visit!
Grab a loyalty card for a free potsu every 9th meal - free pot (noodle or rice) can be any size.
Coffee shops in and around the market tend to close fairly early in the evening, around 6pm. (Yes, even the chains.)
Admit the murals in the lobby area and drink cold coffee. No wifi if you're not a hotel guest.
Go for the Vue Xtreme screenings if you can: much larger theatres than the standard small halls. No wifi, usually bad reception inside which can be a boon and a curse.
Cute and quiet little cafe / European restaurant. Very kid-friendly and there are often families around, busy during mornings / brunch time. Good selection of modern European dishes.
Great selection of ales, classic cocktails well-made, and an incredibly friendly staff/owner. Bar food is nice, and if you fancy something heavier their burgers are great too.
