For the best views over York, climb the Minster Tower. Costs a few pounds - and you need to be in shape for the climb - but well worth it.

A great little museum with historic rooms and a street. Better than a load of old stuff in cabinets!
If you'd rather not pay to go in, or it's closed, go through the passageway at Coffee Yard to see into the main hall through the big glass windows. A fine example of a restored medieval hall.

Have a coffee in the costa coffee shop. It's in a lovely old kiosk inside the station.
A Christmas Shop - that's open all year round! Bit weird going here in the middle of July...
It's not just a fabulous 18th century hotel, it's also a convent and houses a museum, library, shop, café and meeting rooms. Lovely decor inside.
Check out the Exhibition Corridor - on your right as you enter the main cafe. Usually overlooked but nice art in there, often for sale.
Ask for your wine in a plastic glass, take it into the cinena with you, and sit back and enjoy the movie like you were on your sofa at home. Veey civilised.

Absolutely great food at the Blue Bicycle. Best I've had in the United Kingdom. Had the duck special which was wonderful.
