g oconnorสิงหาคม 11, 2015A word to the wise: Huy Fong foods is the original Sriracha, Sambal Oelek, and Chili Garlic Sauce company (one brilliant ex-pat Vietnamese). Note the green tops and the rooster - those are Huy Fong's!
One of the few places in Des Moines that carries my favorite Oasis Hummus made by Oasis Falafel out of Iowa City, IA. Hilary Henakมกราคม 26, 2012Local to the Des Moines area and unlike any other grocery store in Des Moines. They carry locally grown, fresh produce, a wide variety of fine cheeses and wines and groceries from around the world.
The tuna sandwich, seared and cooked rare is excellent! Everything at this restaurant is good though!

Gateway has the largest cheese selection in Central Iowa. Try all of them! The Fontina is just awesome. Plus they have Dulce De Leche, the unique milk caramel from Argentina.
The only place I have ever seen a vegan Bánh mì and it is amazing. Vegan chili is also the best I've ever had. Non-meat options in general are winners.

Best Mac and Cheese I think I have ever had! Fun, modern atmosphere and great fresh produce. There is something for everyone here!
If you're looking for something sweet, head to the freezer section to try an ice cream sandwich made with Tank Goodness cookies & soft serve ice cream!
Stopping by for lunch? A half salad will be more than enough to fill you up. The Cilantro Lime Chicken Salad is the best on the menu.

Try the red pepper hummus-the feta makes it awesomely rich, and perfect with a glass of wine! The veggie pad thai is also amaaazing!!
Looking for a snack to share? The hummus plate—complete with feta, olives, cucumbers and pita chips—is plenty for two.
If you're getting food to go, ask if you can get it in a paper bag. The plastic ones don't hold up very well (we've had more than a couple instances where food ended up all over the car).
Asked for steak tacos made as Burrito, ate half made great dinner...
They use wheat and glutin free (corn) tortillas for their fish and steak tacos. Yum:)

A little pricey, but good sustainable groceries, very helpfull employees and the greatest French Toast in Des Moines have made me a regular.

They have 1 bottle of my fave wine left. Seghesio VENOM---Pete Seghesio poured me some when he was in town last time---SUPREME!!!
The Korean steak sandwich and lobster Mac and cheese are both fabulous.
The fried chicken breakfast on weekends is absolutely amazing

Agur Blue Cheese, some fresh bread & a bottle of wine on a Friday after a long work week hit the spot....
All the granola and Greek yogurt varieties one person could ever need! Great work, Gateway!
Ted Coppockกันยายน 27, 2015Took a guest the last Sunday afternoon. He ordered the tenderloin sandwich. He barely could manage cutting the meat with a knife it was so overcooked. All other meals were satisfactory at best.
