This is my favorite restaurant. I would recommend starting with a piece of white tuna aburi sushi. This type of sushi is hard to find and Japonica makes it best. Also, say hi to Shingo.
Amazing sushi! Not cheap, but well worth it. The avocado salad and fire cracker roll are simply delicious. Expect a wait, they don't take reservations.
Pricey but well worth the money thanks to the amazing quality of the fish. Try the Deluxe Sushi which basically gives you every fish under the sea and wash it down with a big bottle of Sapporo.
Well known and popular landmark serving delicious and plentiful sushi. Try the Dynamite Alaska Roll and the Hamachi Kama to start. Or just go with the Omakase.
The staff are very pleasant and courteous. It's not really too expensive, but it's not cheap. Great portions of Sushimi cuts. I definitely recommend the special rolls. Try their plum wine
Nice selection of authentic Japanese dishes. You can trust your fish will be fresh here. Pictured here "aji tataki". Reasonable (for Japanese in NYC) prices.
Been eating at Japonica with family & friends for decades. Went there yesterday after our daughter's wedding at City Hall. Had sweet shrimp, yellow tale, and tuna eye sushi - best sushi in city.
It's gone a bit downhill (pieces were sloppily cut and not very fresh, in fact I would go so far as to say that they tasted funky) ... may have been an off night, but probably not going back.
I love Japanese restaurants usually, but not a fan of this place. They charge you $1.50 for a takeout container if you want one at end of meal. Unimpressed by menu.
