Going down the stairs towards the waterfall turn right first seeking a small stone. Impressive view from here.
You can buy tickets to the elevator at the church outside, at left hand side of the entrance. 600 ISK / ticket. The view of Reykjavik is amazing at the 8th floor.

The view over the city is better than on top of Hallgrimskirkja. Take the lift to the 4th floor for the terrace (10am-10pm summer). Revolving restaurant is higher (5th floor) and is worth at sunset.
Definitely take the path behind the waterfall – exhilarating! Expect to get wet. Start from the right – a little easier climb. And be careful: The whole path can get pretty slippery.

The place offers a really scenic scenery around, but the place itself isn't very friendly. They treat you as they don't care (but they're super crowded for some reason, so they don't indeed)!
Great noodles that would stand up even to the most discerning East Asian food snob. Be prepared to queue if you want to eat in as its tiny and the locals can't get enough.

Head up river to the end of the path, jump the fence or take the ladder, cross the frozen stream and head to the rock piles for another great vantage point.
