During the Great Depression "Monkey Hill", an artificial hill, was built to show the kids of flat New Orleans what a hill looks like. Local folklore calls Monkey Hill the highest point in New Orleans.
The museum opened its doors on June 6 2000, the 56th anniversary of D-Day. The museum is located here because this is where the "Higgins Boats", vital to D-Day operations were designed, built & tested
Opened in 1838, The New Orleans Mint is currently the oldest surviving structure to have served as a U.S. Mint. Since 1981 it has served as a branch of the Louisiana State Museum.
