Unlike the Wheaton Metro stop, which has the longest escalators in the Western Hemisphere, this station does not have escalator service because it is 196 feet below the surface. Elevators only.
This station opened on February 6, 1978. Until the Forest Glen station was opened on September 22, 1990, this was the Red Line eastern terminal station. The Grosvenor-Strathmore train has less riders.
I cannot stress enough for how important it is for people to remember that on the escalators- stand on the right side and WALK on the left side. So other people can get through. PLEASE!
Battery low? There are electrical outlets on the side of the concrete benches..:D
If in an "Igot2pee" moment the station mgr is nice enough to let you use the bathroom.
If your going down town start on the red line.There's spotty service under ground on the green line.
Another architectural feature of this station is separate tunnels & platforms for each direction, instead of the large, vaulted common room seen. This design, is only shared with Wheaton Station
