As the name suggests, the Earth Room is a room full of dirt. Rich, dark dirt, knee deep, housed in a 3600 square foot room in Soho, intriguing viewers for the past 30 years.
Those trees lining the streets? They're the work of German sculptor Joseph Beuys, a handful of a project that called for 7,000.
The best place to scope this out, if you can't get inside, is from the sidewalk on the north side of the street, looking south in through the stairwell windows.
