M G: Wonderful, knowledgeable staff. Insanely extensive menu. Lovely old school decor. Truly a library of scotches, cognacs, brandys, etc. More of an encyclopedia... A must for any spirits afficionado.

Susan Loh: Classy and intimate spot in the most random part of the Mission. Great selection of whisky, superb happy hour, and get the agedashi tofu with a side of rice.

Baratunde: Great whiskey bloody mary. You'd think this might not work, but it does!

eric mortensen: Outstanding selection of beer and whiskey with a friendly vibe.

Dan Meyer: Amazing list of rotating bourbons, whiskeys, scotch. If it is there, Jefferson's 17 yr Reserve is a must.

harryh: Best Old Fashioned in NYC. Comes mixed perfectly with a single giant ice cube. Best enjoyed with 3 of your closest friends.

Serge Kassardjian: Hands down the best cigar and scotch bar in nyc. All the others are overrated because this one actually has girls that also go. Plus you have to love the red velvet.

Matthew Hunt: huge whiskey selection. just got a double barrel balvenie, excellent.

HISTORY: This building dates back to 1794 and was opened as a porter house in 1847, making it New York City's oldest bar. Be on the lookout for pirate ghosts who are said to frequent the bar.

James Yu: Get the Dark and Stormy, a nice mixture of ginger beer and bourbon

David Adams: Order a Laphroaig Project and wonder at its smokey, citrusy strangeness. Delicious.

Dee Phunk: Aside from it being a great space in general, the thing I admire the most about The Counting Room is that the bartenders actually give a sh*t about mixing drinks. Impressive cocktails, fairly priced.
