NONE of stanley kubricks "the shining" was filmed at the Stanley Hotel! The exterior shots were filmed in Mt. Hood Oregon at the Timberline Lodge! The interior was filmed on a sound stage in London!

Love just sitting in the lobby by the fireplaces. Great old historic hotel. A must for any trip to Estes Park.
The infamous mountain retreat where Stephen King stayed one snowy autumn in 1974 and was inspired to write his novel The Shining. The hotel is regarded to be haunted.
John Geigerกันยายน 9, 2018Don’t buy into the hype. The tour may be entertaining but the hotel itself is poorly run and very poorly maintained. Estes Park is wonderful, but you can do WAY better when it comes to lodging.

Traffic is a mess with all the on-site construction.

He is informative, knowledgeable, funny, and makes sure to make sure everyone is having an great time!- Take a photo of the blocked stairwell on the 4th floor, if you have your camera on flash it will reveal the word RedRum scratched in the wood.
When checkin' in ask/hope that you get a room that faces Estes Park. The rooms that face the back of the hotel have the worse views and can get a bit noisy from the outdoor bar!
