Placed in reserve in 1835, this is one of the oldest sites in the U.S. dedicated to public recreational usage. It is named after the Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa.

This ship was built in 1863 as a full-rigged iron windjammer named 'Euterpe'. In 1901 she was renamed 'Star of India' & re-rigged as a barque ship (three or more masts).
Take the ferry to Coronado Island from the Pier, it's $9.50 round trip. Once there, there's shops and dining. Otherwise you can take a free shuttle bus to Hotel Del Coronado, a must see.

Go to the last park entrance up on the hill to the right, then use the ropes for a small repel down to the beach. This area is the best of Sunset Cliffs.

The park preserves & recreates the old town from shortly after the Mexican War of Independence through the Bear Flag Revolt. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

Situated just across the Big Bay from downtown San Diego, Coronado is most notably known for two famous structures, the historic Hotel del Coronado and the distinctive San Diego-Coronado Bridge.
The hotel opened in 1888 as the largest resort hotel in the world and the first to use electrical lighting. It was declared a historic landmark in 1977. Rooms 3502 and 3327 are reported to be haunted!

It is such a beautiful scenic scene! From the pier you get to see San Diego's most famous postcard scenery, and also Coronado Bridge and a small and yet charming beach right in front the pier.
A park so small it can be missed easily but the view on downtown San Diego is amazing. Definitely worth a little detour.
