Almost every faculty has his own big "Openingsfuif" or sometimes a 2nd big party. Go to at least one of them. It's very cheap beer!
Ghent's nicest train station, if you've got the chance you should plant your butt on one of the benches on the square in front of the station and enjoy the view ;)
