Basically the center of Palermo and where lots of stuff is going on in the plazas in front. Pretty nice to look at, no idea how the inside is.
And the other end of the center of Palermo. The stretch between here and the Teatro Massimo is the center of the city.
A nice little plaza in front of the Teatro. Sometimes there's some nice things going on, but otherwise not too special.
Great place to get some arancine: fried, Sicilian, meat-stuffed rice dumplings. Pro tip: if you order the Antico Caffè Cocktail they bring you a ton of little snacks with it (chips, peanuts, etc.)
This whole area is Champagneria and this is the place to go out at night. Lots of bars and lots of people hanging around outside.
Good looking cocktails although sometime they miss the mark on the taste. But for 5€ it's still great.
Basically the royal residence/palace in Sicily and this is where the local parliament is sometimes. It's more or less a museum for tourists now.
A small little chapel within the Palazzo, but the mosaics inside are really quite impressive.
The main cathedral in Palermo. Going up on top is def worth it and you get a great view over the city with the sea and the mountains in the background.
A tiny little sandwich shop near the market. More street food than a real shop. The panelle sandwiches are good.
A small, but nice little church that's a cool fusion of Arabic and Christian.
Also called the Piazza della Vergogna. At night it's often lit up and looks really cool.
A really nice village just outside of Palermo, but higher up in the hills/mountains giving you a great view. Easily reachable by bus as well.
The cathedral in Monreale is actually pretty cool. The mosaic on the walls and ceiling is especially impressive. If you climb to the top you also get a great view.
The cloister next to the cathedral is also quite nice and worth walking through.
The amphitheater is also really cool (and reconstructed). You can take a shuttle bus up the hill if you want, otherwise it's about a 30 minute walk uphill. Views up top are also great.
If you're on your way back from Segesta, stop here for some great ice cream and pastries.
A little outside the city, but this area is full of basically the best seafood restaurants. Make a reservation though!
Basically the best of the seafood restaurants in the area (make a reservation). There's no menu. You just sit down and they start bringing the courses. Come prepared and hungry!
The salt pans out in Trapani are really quite cool. If you time it right, the sunset here is great.
Medieval city up on the hilltop near Trapani. It's pretty much completely intact and all walled-in. Mainly for tourists, but just wandering around the streets and alleys is cool.
It's the tower in front of the church that you really want. Go up to the top for a cool view.
By far the coolest part of Erice. The view on this side of the village is amazing plus the castle itself looks really cool perched on the cliffs.
The park right in front of the Castello is nice. Views of the sunset from here are also great.
There's lots of touristy restaurants in Erice. This is just where we ended up going. It was fine, but you're not missing out on much if you want to try your luck somewhere else.
