One of Vancouver's first speakeasy type bar is fun even though it's now listed on every social network and gets pretty busy. Mixed drinks and the truffle popcorn.
Japanese Izakaya has small plates (similar to tapas) and is a pretty fun experience if you've never been to one. This place does it well.
Pretty good espresso drinks, but come here for a baguette sandwich at lunch time. Show up early or call ahead because it gets really busy at 12.
Granville Island beer is usually cheap here but the food is burgers and just ok. Come for the atmosphere of international travelers because there is an attached hostel; also cheap.

Renovated somewhat recently this place is a decent Irish Pub. Best for shows. Get the Mac & Cheese brick if you're getting food.

Great breakfast and brunch! The staff can be cruel but funny, yes it's that kind of place.
Expensive sushi but worth it. Go for broke ($60+) and get the Omakase, the chef will make whatever and you'll really enjoy it.
Wine and Cheese. This place is amazing if you love cheese, the fondue is always excellent.
Cheap, good Chinese food. Get the steamed pork buns, they're only $2 and you'll only need two.
Only real value of this place is the large outdoor patio. If you can't get a seat outside on a nice day just keep walking.
