Ben Engen: One of the better distilleries to just pop into without doing a tour. They have a lovely gift shop and a nice bar and sitting area where you can sample some flights.
Ben Engen: I couldn't even precisely tell you why, but this is one of my favorites in Edinburgh. It's just got a real nice vibe. It's energetic without being chaotic and feels neighborhoody despite the locale.
Ben Engen: Lucked into this one. Just stayed for some beers but the staff was so lovely and we ended up staying just to chat with them. They gave us the rundown on things to do during our brief visit
Ben Engen: One of the more iconic Scottish castles. The price of admission includes a short tour that makes it a worthwhile stop if you're in the area.
Ben Engen: Lovely couple running a quaint b&b that really saved us when we were stranded by foul weather and unable to make it to our original hotel. One of the better breakfasts I've had at a B&B too.
Ben Engen: Fairly authentic German place. The food is good but obviously not up to the standards that you'd get in Germany. The space is really cool, big and open.
Ben Engen: Not as many offerings as some, but the setting right beneath the castle makes this something to for sure check out. We did most of our shopping here during our month stay.
Ben Engen: Cool little speakeasy. I enjoyed my cocktail but I was surprised that this place has generated such rave reviews globally. For sure worth going, but seems overrated to me.
Ben Engen: Bakehouse in the middle of nowhere that still follows traditional recipes. Take a break from your drive to Skye and stop in for a coffee and a pastry.
Ben Engen: This is the restaurant in the National Gallery and while it is a "museum restaurant" it was better than I was expecting. Plus the view of the town out the big picture windows is quite nice.
Ben Engen: I was skeptical at first but there's always a line so I gave it a try and was not disappointed. They do a particularly good job with their sauces and vegetables.
Ben Engen: Pretty good especially for Scotland. While the food was good I really appreciated that the portion sizes were not overwhelming. I could stop in for lunch and not need a nap after!
Ben Engen: Festive yet aged tavern with a pretty strong fish and chips. They herb the breading somehow to give it a little more nuance than other fish and chips.

Ben Engen: Not sure I can really claim to have been since I waited around forever and couldn't get any service. When I tried the staff didn't even realize what I was ordering was, indeed, on the menu. Skip.
